Cierra RapidShare, uno de los sitios más populares para compartir archivos

RapidShare, uno de los primeros sitios y más populares para compartir archivos, ha anunciado su cierre. La empresa dejará de prestar servicios a partir del 31 de marzo de este año, fecha en la que se eliminará todas las cuentas y datos almacenados en sus servidores.

La plataforma ha realizado el anuncio a través de un breve comunicado publicado en su página web. En él señala que los usuarios con extensiones Standard Plus y Premium dispondrán del servicio hasta el 28 de febrero.

La plataforma de almacenamiento para compartir archivos nació en 2002 con base en Suiza. Durante sus primeros años disfrutó de su época dorada con cientos de millones de visitantes mensuales, según rescata «Techcrunch». Tras el escándalo de Megaupload, sitio dirigido por Kim Dotcom y acusado de violar derechos de autor, RapidShare logró mantenerse en pie al cumplir con las leyes.

La empresa no señala las razones del cierre. Advierte a los usuarios que aseguren los datos que tengan almacenados en estas cuentas ya que toda la información será eliminada tras el 31 de marzo y nadie podrá tener acceso. «Gracias por tantos años de confianza», finaliza el comunicado.
